What Now Recount

 What Now

On the 12 of September I went to stay at my best friend Olive’s house for the night because we were going to What Now the next morning.

We went to bed at about quarter to ten. My alarm went off at quarter to 6 in the morning but we got up at ten to. After we washed our faces to wake ourselves up and got ready. Olive's mum's friend Craig dropped us off at Shanty Town at quarter to 7 in the morning.

When we could finally get in the gate at 7am we got really excited. I was kinda nervous that I would look stupid on camera or accidentally swear and be in trouble with the teachers.

When we got through the gates we handed Ms Kemp our notice that allowed us to be filmed and put on tv, and then we met Erin, one of the hosts. She was really nice. She changed into a different dress every segment and they looked really nice on her. The producers were really good at explaining what we had to do.

The first segment we were in was us running off of the steam train at Shanty Town. It was great fun and we did a lot of running around ShantyTown to get to the spot where the next segment would be.

The next segment we went to was, Say It Don't Spray It. For this one they only chose five people, they chose two of my best friends and 3 other people to do it. Say It Don’t Spray it was about saying tongue twisters and if you mucked it up or said a word wrong you got foamed and you were out.

The first person to go was my best friend Emma, Erin asked her, “How much out of 10 do you think you have a chance of doing this?” Emma answered, “Five.” Then she read out the tongue twister which was, Sheila seldom sells shelled shrimps at Shantytown. She did really well and didn’t get foamed so that was good.

Then Erin went to my other best friend Jordyn and said, “Do you think you will be able to do  it?” Jordyn said, “Yes, definitely!” It was really funny because she got it wrong and got foamed. I felt bad, but she did really good.

Then all the others got their turn and all except one got it wrong and it was really funny because they all got foamed.

Then it was down to Emma and a girl called Mea.

Emma had a little stumble but she wasn’t out yet because they wanted to see who could do it better. Next it was Mea she mucked up really bad, it was hilarious! Mea got foamed and the they went to Emma and asked her, “How do you feel about getting foamed on national television?” Then Emma tried to run away saying, “No, no, no! Thank you.” Erin had to tell her to come back and get foamed.

Emma stood there panicking and she looked really funny. She accidentally left her mouth open and I couldn't stop laughing at her. She won some really cool prizes though.

For the next segment we went into the movie theatre. Everyone lined up outside and when we were told to go in we all walked to pretend we just watched a movie.

We had to pretend that we just saw the crappiest movie ever. We didn't know what the movie was until we went home to watch it, but it was about what they thought it was like in the olden days but they were just being silly and it was really bad. They had terrible accents and had a ridiculous gunge fight.

In the next segment we went gold panning. It was alright but I wasn’t in the shot at all in that segment because I was down the other end with Emma. We had some gold in our pan and it was really cool to look at.

I was really excited for our next segment because it was Target Your Teacher which was when the teacher gets asked questions and if she answers them correctly we all get foamed, but if she gets the question wrong someone gets to throw a ball and try to hit a target which will dump a bucket of gunge on her head.

Because it is Maori language week she got asked questions about Maori names and meanings. I think she got asked 3 or 4 questions before she got it wrong. Karmi, the first girl to throw a ball, hit the target but not in the right spot so the gunge didn’t fall on her head. Next it was one of my other best friends Ilish’s turn to throw the ball. She hit the target and it was really funny. Ms Newton’s goggles came off and it looked like it went in her eyes.

Erin yelled, “Go foam!” and we all got covered in foam. It was really funny except I didn't have much foam so I was disappointed about that but at the end we all got to get foamed so I was excited for that.

The next part was all of us getting foamed. I was really excited and then Erin held the foam gun and started spraying it everywhere and the ground was white like snow and everyone was covered in it.

My friends and I were grabbing it off our clothes and off the ground and starting our own foam fight. I splatted a massive blob of foam in one of my friends' hair. They all had more foam on them than I did so they kept coming up and hugging me and I ended up with so much foam all over me.

The fight continued for a while until one of the producers said that everyone could have a bottle of gunge so I went and grabbed one and then Olive and I went to get changed before her mum came to pick us up. We told her mum about all the fun things we got to do and she took us to go and get McDonalds.

I had a really good 2 hours at ShantyTown, but I wish they could have had more games so that more people could do them and join in. I would have liked it if we could all have been in the shots a bit more because only a few people were selected for games and nobody else was part of them and were hardly in the shot.

My favourite part of the day was when we played Say It Don’t Spray It, because there were lots of laughs and everyone that wasn't playing the game had a really good time and a good laugh.
